Calantha is a thinly veiled stand-in for Lady Caroline Lamb, the onetime lover of Lord Byron, in her Gothic novel Glenarvon. Her obsession with him ignited when the poet spurned her. Previously she had described Byron as "mad, bad, and dangerous to know."
